My neighbor tore down his old fence. I asked the fence people to put some of the fence sections in my back yard. So far I have made a spice rack that is turning out great. The advantage of using fence lumber is that it is 6' long and in ready supply anywhere a fence is being torn down. Another source of wood is fence wood.
